code 59 au intro post!!
(artwork is concept art, 2012 screenshot redraw, 1987 screenshot redraw, and 2003 screenshot redraw ^^)
official synopsis:
it’s the year 2103. mutantkind can now be legal citizens and live among humans. however, prejudice and fear still remain. many mutants create small suburbs within cities as a sanctuary from human hatred.
but even despite the promise of a mutant neighborhood, leonardo, raphael, donatello, and michelangelo are still kept from the public eye. in splinter’s younger years as a human, he created many enemies, and he’s vowed to keep his new family secret and safe.
too bad no one warned him about teenage rebellion.
the boys’ first taste of freedom brings them new friends: april, casey, and karai. but they soon discover even those they can trust can lead to dangers not even splinter could expect.
turtle bios under the cut ^^
leonardo is the oldest of the four brothers (he’s only older than donatello by a few hours). he’s most recognizable by his blue mask, scar over his left eye, and the gap in his teeth. leonardo is a disciplined martial artist (gotta fight his clumsiness somehow) and a caring brother; however, he has a rebellious side and longs to see the world and all it has to offer. he’s hopeful and stubborn, and his brothers tend to give him more anxiety than they should, but he still wants to be a good leader to them. he tends to be a bit naïve, wanting to see the good in everyone he meets, leading to his friendship with his cousin, karai. he has a fear of snakes, but more importantly, a fear of letting his brothers down, or worse, losing them because of his own shortsightedness. leonardo tends to be very competitive and has a habit of creating corny one liners (who cares if his brothers hate it; it’s fun!). in his downtime, he enjoys sci-fi and adventure movies, reading and writing, and beating his brothers at video games (and in training!).
donatello is the second of the four brothers (younger than leonardo by a few hours and older than raphael and michelangelo by a day). he’s most recognizable by his long purple mask and his freckles. donatello knows he’s smart. practically an expert in engineering and computer science (and he dabbles in other sciences too!), donatello is the one to thank for the turtles’ neat gadgets. with all his knowledge, it’s left donatello a bit overconfident. he loves to show off his work, and refuses to see any shortcomings as true failure. he does wish his brothers would act more interested, however. when he’s not talking about science though, Donatello is very insecure. unlike his brothers, he is painfully discontented with his mutanthood, wanting so strongly to be a human. despite his generally kind and polite behavior, he has a slight disdain for other mutants, and wants to create a retromutagen. now if only he could find actual fresh mutagen to study it … deep down, donatello wants to feel loved and accepted, and his greatest fear is to be shunned (or worse) for what he is. in his downtime, donatello enjoys designing new inventions, fixating on dinosaurs, building mini models, listening to old musicals, perfecting his latte art (he swears he’s improving), and watching bad reality tv with his best friend, april.
raphael is one of the youngest of the four brothers (no one’s entirely sure if he or michelangelo are younger). he’s most recognizable by his red mask, dimples, and his striped markings. raphael is painfully sarcastic, witty, and emotional. he often acts on his negative emotions, usually through brutal honesty or biting remarks, before he has the chance to think. to his credit, however, raphael has a strong moral compass, knowing exactly what he believes is right and wrong. due to this, raphael often plays the “straight man” in the team, calling out his brothers for their downfalls. raphael is also very protective of those close to him, and even learned first aid to better look after them. due to all this, splinter believes that raphael has the ability to take up the role of leader if something should happen to leonardo. out of all his brothers, raphael is the least interested in human culture and has grown comfortable being a mutant turtle. he strongly believes that there’s nothing wrong with being different, and as a result has a soft spot for the outcasts of new york city, humans and mutants alike. raphael’s biggest fear is being alone … and bugs. in his downtime, raphael enjoys working on vehicles, painting, boxing, and making music.
michelangelo is also one of the youngest of the four brothers (he and raphael possibly hatched at the same time). he’s most recognizable by his orange mask, dimples, glasses, and his spotted markings. michelangelo is fun-loving, friendly, and mischievous. though perhaps the most skilled of his brothers, michelangelo has a bad habit of avoiding his training, as he’d much rather be out having fun or preparing a prank for his unsuspecting brothers. despite his lack of discipline, michelangelo has a big heart and collects friendships like he collects comic books. all his brothers are very protective of him, and he knows how to take advantage of it. michelangelo has a strong dislike for being pushed aside, and often takes it upon himself to handle missions without his brothers to prove he’s just as capable as them. this can put him in all sorts of trouble. though on the bright side, this has also landed him several chances to make new friends. michelangelo’s biggest dream is to become a comic book artist. michelangelo’s biggest fear is his loved ones turning against him. in his downtime, he enjoys skateboarding, sketching, reading comic books, and cooking (especially pizza!).

code 59 number 27
is there a rat king and can he control splinter?
Tumblr media
rat king used to be dr victor falco, a scientist with a fascination of the mind and ,, well, rats. in a freak lab accident, he gained the ability to psychically communicate with rats.
you’d think this would make him a serious villain in the code 59 au ,,, but lol no.
he’s much more the type of villain like dr drakken or dr doofenschmirtz. he thinks he’s such an evil, cunning villain but he’s more often than not a joke.
yes he does mind control splinter twice in the story, but it’s never really something that lasts and the turtles and splinter are more annoyed by it than anything.
what makes rat king stand out tho is his relationship with his children.
no im not talking about rats.
so you know how in the 87 series, the punk frogs were at first kinda shredder’s adopted kids and he named them after his “heroes” or whatever.
yeah instead i had them be adopted by the rat king.
the punk frogs are similar to their 87 counterparts in that they’re all sweethearts who don’t really want to hurt anybody, but their dad is a goofy villain who gets so proud whenever they use their weapons.
me omw to make code 59 villains parents
like seriously he’s like the fifth villain-
also he’s burne thompson’s younger half brother,, estranged,,

code 59 leolotus 1 and 7?
im prolly doing a bit of tweaking to code 59 lotus’ character just a tiny bit but here’s what i can share based on what i have
1 - first date
so some background. at the end of season 1, the tcri building has a massive explosion with shredder, krang, and lotus’ bodies disappearing, so everyone assumes they’re dead. in reality, they actually were teleported to dimension x, and they’re stuck there for the first half of season 2.
leo had a crush on lotus (they were starting to bond but weren’t super close yet) but now he thinks she’s dead, and also with his lost friendship with karai, he’s kinda in a down spot.
at the halfway point of season 2, krang finds a way to send one person to earth, and to shredder’s great annoyance, he chooses lotus to be their scout. so lotus is on earth now and her main task is finding out what the foot is now up to and also finding a way to reanimate the tcri portal.
but while she’s there, she meets leo again. leo’s relieved to see her. and with how kind and sincere he is, lotus is reminded why she likes him. and asks him out.
the whole time she’s kinda nervous cause she’s not sure if she should tell him about krang and shredder but lol anyways.
their first date is a museum date!!!!! a history museum. and code 59 lotus isn’t super familiar with earth history so she’s completely fascinated.
7 - something theyre scared to tell each other
well i mean . ig i just mentioned that she’s hesitant to tell leonardo about krang and shredder’s plans so ig there’s that. but otherwise, this lotus is pretty laidback. she’s good at keeping secrets, but she herself is not a very secretive person. it’s more just,,, she doesn’t bring up stuff that’s personal. but if leo asked, she’d share.
i think for leonardo,,, after karai’s betrayal (and april’s), leo gets really scared of letting people in again. and while he really really likes lotus, she also works for krang. so he makes a lot of boundaries when they reunite. he never takes her to the lair, never tells her anything about his family, rarely tells her about his enemies. it’s not till lotus starts rebelling against krang that she starts earning his trust.

Secret friendship—this is so exciting. I love Leo’s dynamic with Karai they’re so interesting, excited to see what you do with it
How do the boys meet April? And what’s she like?
since i dont have it completely thought through i’ll save the story for later, but it involves baxter i think is my plan
here’s some art of april and casey tho
Tumblr media
april’s dad works for tcri and she’s involved with the company too but i can’t speak too much on that it’s a plot twist lol
she and donnie are particularly close. april has a knack for understanding biology and chemistry so she helps donnie with some sciency stuff sometimes

Raphael and Michelangelo's greatest fears stuck out to me for some reason. While all the turtles have fears regarding their interpersonal relationships and how they're percieved, Raphael and Michelangelo's seem more... specific? If that makes sense?
"Being alone" and "brothers turning against him" feel more direct than "losing his family" or "being shunned."
I'm probably not wording this the most coherently but I'm wondering what the origins of these two fears are, exactly? If not the origins, then elaborate on them? :3c
yeah leonardo and donatello’s fears are pretty much connected to their goals
but with raphael and michelangelo,,, i’ve already thought for years that those were their fears in other shows so i brought them into code 59
raphael cares so so much for his family and despite all his “im a loner” talk,, he isn’t at all. he is at his worst when he’s alone. he needs his brothers or he loses himself.
with michelangelo, his brothers always look after him and have his back when he’s in trouble. despite their quarrels, they’ll always be there for him. but the horrifying idea of them genuinely turning away from him and even going so far as antagonizing him scares michelangelo.
i love fear-based episodes so i’d love to have something like that in code 59 to explore it more

I love your Casey design!
Okay another question—
Who is the most annoyed by Or most likely to fall victim to Michelangelo’s pranks?
And do they ever prank him back with any success?
LEONARDO FJDKDKSKDK
he’s gullible
donatello is the most successful at pranking back bc he’s so quiet about it that no one suspects him
raphael pranks back most tho
and thanksssss i love my casey

The code 59 designs are so cool!! 🤩
Are the other turtles close with Karai? Or just Leo?
thank you!
leonardo and karai actually keep their friendship secret from their families
eventually down the line, the other turtles value her as an ally but it takes a while

okay so like. is ch'rell in code 59 and what is his relation to krang? also how did krang adopt lotus????
i haven’t put much thought into ch’rell but he’s in the space arc in “season 4”
as for krang and lotus.
lotus grew up traveling from clan to clan learning how to fight from different masters. but her skills alienated her from everyone. she kept passing her masters in skill and they hated her for it, which was also part of why she kept moving clans.
krang briefly was stranded on earth while the utroms (and hamato yoshi but shhh) were trying to defeat him, and he came across a preteen lotus blossom.
he recognized that she was skilled and convinced her to sneak him into the tokyo tcri building (then lead by utroms before he took over) and into a portal back to dimension x.
with lotus’ help (and trust), krang took over most of dimension x.
he treats lotus fairly well and trusts her with most of his secrets. he still thinks she’s a bit immature and naïve tho

Okay I just now read up on code 59. I love the fears you chose for each turtle. First question, will Donnie ever be able to make retromutagen? Or meet someone else who wants to? And if so is that like a wake up call for him?
i’m gonna update those bios and the official summary soon (working on an intro post with some art like i did with interstellarverse).
but yes, donatello eventually gets involved with the epf which causes some drama in his family.
he eventually gets ,, several wake up calls along the way.
he makes a retromutagen eventually but he doesn’t use it on himself when the time comes. he gives it up for someone who he thinks needs it more

lotus’ initial thoughts about loving leonardo in each show and my au’s
87
“he’s skilled and charming i think i definitely like him— DID SHREDDER JUST TELL EVERYONE??”
03
“… oh he’s the nicest person i’ve ever met … i don’t deserve this kindness, but now i can’t get enough … but if i pursue this and give up my mission, i’m risking my entire reputation as a mercenary.”
12
“i’ve been hurt before but he’s so sincere i wouldn’t mind pursuing him,,, but rn my priority is making sure chaplin’s plans don’t succeed.”
rise
“REALLY????? HIM?????? HE DOESNT EVEN NOTICE I LIKE HIM”
code 59
“hehe silly turtle boy is adorable i hope he doesn’t mind i’m working for a tyrant uwu”
misplacedverse
“he was literally in my dreams and helped me discover my past. maybe we were meant to b— oh he’s going back to his dimension and said there was nothing for him here wELP—“

i have like. 10 main au’s now fjdkdksk
my fanfic, a life rebuilt
a 2012 au where tang shen survives the fire tho is severely injured and chooses to raise the turtles with splinter. the story follows shen throughout the 2012 series and how she’d affect the events
alice in wonderland au
not rlly an au, more like an episode with a dream sequence. based on the wonderland musical by frank wildhorn. set in 87, lotus falls down an elevator shaft and finds herself in wonderland surrounded by her friends reimagined as wonderland characters.
rapunzenardo au
so uhhhh. this was actually max’s idea/joke that i couldn’t stop thinking about and i made it an actual au. so it’s the plot of tangled but with 87 leonardo and lotus blossom.
his mask tails are very long.
misplacedverse
the 2012 team who existed when the main 2012 team went back in time go to space only to be forced into an alternate universe where there are no ninja turtles— a version of 87 where the turtles never mutated. they want to go back desperately but discover that this universe needs their help, and they start to get attached.
the fun with this au is that it can fit into 2012’s canon.
code 59
an original au that takes place in the future where mutants are mostly accepted into society, but splinter is scared of the enemies he’s made in his past so chooses to keep the turtles in the sewer anyway. too bad they become teens.
kind of my main au that follows the traditional tmnt formula.
interstellarverse
an original au where the boys are separated from splinter as toddlers and end up on different parts of the galaxy. somehow they find each other and have to learn to become a family again despite wanting different things.
sons of bishop
an original au where the turtles were mutated and raised by bishop as his soldiers. but on their first mission, they start to realize they might be the bad guys.
circus freaks au
my newest original au. april tries to investigate a mysterious circus and discovers it full of mutants and aliens. word gets out to the epf and puts them in danger.
pirate au
a fun original au i’ve come up with with my friend @sailing-ever-west .
still brainstorming a plot but i was inspired while thinking about one piece and pirates of the caribbean. takes elements mostly from 87 and 2012.
fantasy au
EDIT. I FORGOT THIS ONE. this is a mostly 87-inspired au where the boys are separated, but instead of a sci fi setting it’s a high fantasy world.
